Many years ago, a neighbor lent us a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel, but because we were not ready to receive its message, it lay unopened. The name "Christian Science" had, however, been introduced to us, and in order to express a friendly feeling, my mother and I consented to attend a lecture to be given in our city. One sentence only of that lecture seemed to rouse my thought, and it was this: "My friends, you say a thing is too good to be true, but I say it is only the good that is true."

Years went by, years of difficulty and sorrow, when God seemed very far away, but the message of the reality of good had taken root, and in 1921 I attended, for the first time, a Sunday evening service of a Christian Science church, held in a small hall in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England. There I felt a wonderful peace, and that encouraged me to continue to attend the services and to purchase a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.

I began to find a new meaning for life. Grief and disappointment, caused by the death of a loved one, gradually gave way to hope and an understanding of the ever-presence of a God of love, "with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." A physical condition, for which I had had much medical attention, yielded to the truths of Christian Science, and I began to be healthier and stronger than I had ever been before. The healing was slow, but during that time I had ample opportunity for proving that God could protect and guide, and that courage was always available for His children.
