Perfect Vision

As revealed in Christian Science, vision is a faculty of divine Mind, God. Since it is a sense of Soul, vision is not subject to mortal laws of chance and change, but is forever perfect. Man reflects this perfect vision, for man is the expression of Soul. This truth about vision enables us to utilize the omnipotence of good, annihilates the fables of erroneous human belief, and reveals the fact that man's vision is governed, now and forever, by God's perfect law of harmony.

On page 586 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy defines "eyes" as follows: "Spiritual discernment,—not material but mental." Hence real vision is spiritual, never in matter. She also writes (ibid., p. 274), "The senses of Spirit abide in Love, and they demonstrate Truth and Life." Since man is the full and perfect reflection of Spirit, divine Love, here and now, the senses of Spirit abide with and are expressed by man. It is our privilege, therefore, to prove that our vision is perfect by denying the lie of the so-called mortal mind that vision is material and subject to inharmony.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Christ Jesus spoke of true spiritual vision and the way to demonstrate it in human experience. He said, "The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light." True spiritual vision, the "light of the body," is obtained by singleness of discernment, by looking constantly into the truth of being, and allowing no evil, no lie about God and man, to enter our thinking. It is necessary to know the truth about vision. Christ Jesus indicated this necessity when he said, "Having eyes, see ye not?" He proved that true spiritual vision destroys the false material concept of imperfect vision; through his clear realization of the truth about vision he gave sight to many that were blind.
