Solothurner Zeitung,

In a recent issue of the Solothurner Zeitung there is a short reference to the teaching of Christian Science. The passage reads, "Christian Science is based on the belief that sickness is the consequence of sin, and can, therefore, be healed through prayer." This needs an explanation. Sickness implies a state of imperfection, and in this sense could be called "sin," even if the sick person is in no way conscious of having committed an offense against divine law. All beliefs of imperfection, however, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." In the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy says of Jesus (p.6), "He came teaching and showing men how to destroy sin, sickness, and death;" and of prayer (p.9), "Consistent prayer is the desire to do right."
