Serenity

Rest, troubled heart. God's promise stands secure,
That He will give His angels charge o'er thee;
So turn to Him with loving, childlike faith,
And through earth's mists thou wilt His glory see.

Give up the backward look; find the design
Of good thy heavenly Father plans for thee;
Let in the light which shines for every man—
The light of Truth, undimmed, all-healing, free.

Lose the false sense of self, accept the true;
Put by unworthy aims and foolish ways.
Deny earth's dream, affirm God's perfect law,
As mighty now as in the ancient days.

And as thou treadst with joy the upward path,
God's lovely things still lovelier will seem;
The vision dark will pass, and thou wilt wake
To find those phantom fears an empty dream.

There is no power to hurt or make afraid
God's children dear, for He protects His own;
Cease doubting, lift thine eyes, and trust His care;
Be still, and know thou ne'er canst walk alone.
