It is a great joy to testify to the healing power of Christian Science...
It is a great joy to testify to the healing power of Christian Science and to express my thankfulness for the many benefits received through its ministry.
I had been a sufferer for over twenty years, was constantly under medical treatment, and received only temporary relief. During those years I submitted to many tests, X rays, diets, and all sorts of medicines; also had a nurse coming to the home to give colonic irrigations, but all with no results. My underweight was alarming to the doctors, and in the spring of 1926 I was again advised to enter a hospital for a series of treatments and a special diet. At the end of three weeks I was worse than ever, and a growth manifested itself. The fear and discouragement became so intense that I planned self-destruction. In this state, it was as though a voice said to me, "Well, you could try Christian Science." This seemed to be a ray of light and hope.
I had heard something about Christian Science and remembered the name of a practitioner. She was asked to come to my home, and after she had arrived and had talked to me awhile, a deep sense of peace came over me. She stayed for about two hours, and I told her some friends were going to the Adirondacks and had invited my husband and me to go with them two hundred miles into the mountains, as was our custom to do every summer. I knew that in Christian Science one relies absolutely on God for healing, and the thought of not taking the usual suitcase filled with drugs, and so forth, gave me some apprehension. This I expressed, and I shall never forget the practitioner's answer to me. She said that no matter how far I was going, it did not make any difference, for God is everywhere. That message came with such assurance that the work of getting ready was taken up with new hope and energy, and in ten days we were on our way to the Adirondacks, where we stayed about six weeks.
