As a child I suffered severely from boils. At one time I had an attack which lasted with varying degrees of intensity for nearly a year—this in spite of medical aid, hot compresses, changed diet, and other material methods.

Years later I became a student of Christian Science, and learned "that the human mind alone suffers, is sick, and that the divine Mind alone heals" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 270). One day I noticed signs of an attack of boils which appeared to be much more severe than anything I had previously experienced. Some forty boils seemed to be starting simultaneously. I tried to know the truth about the situation, but a sense of fear remaining from earlier experiences with this malady hampered me. Conditions grew rapidly worse, until I realized that I must do some clear thinking or look forward to an enforced vacation of considerable length.

A talk with a Christian Science practitioner made me realize that the healing Principle was as accessible to me as to him, and when he suggested that I try overcoming this error through my own understanding, I felt so reassured that I readily assented, it being arranged that he would aid me if I did not show marked improvement soon.
