It is with a heart full of gratitude that I should like to testify to a beautiful healing which I have had through Christian Science. For several years I suffered from acute articular rheumatism. My condition was serious and kept getting worse. I tried all sorts of medical treatment, and spent a great deal of money taking cures at various baths. The doctors were unable to promise any improvement. I had become almost wholly disabled, and got about by means of a cane. Each step cost me an effort, for I suffered great pain. I was discouraged and depressed. I believed in God, but I did not know that He could deliver me from sickness, for I thought that it was He who had sent me the suffering. One day a traveling salesman, who was a Christian Scientist, came to our home. He inquired about my state of health. Then he said, "Do you know you could be healed?" I answered, "No, for I have tried everything." After a few moments of conversation, I begged this good friend to put me in touch with a Christian Science practitioner, which he did at once.
The healing was slow, but when the first gleams of Truth pierced the thick clouds of mortal fear, calmness came to me. I understood that in the measure thought is purified, the healing occurs; it is gained through sincere trust in God. Our motto must be, "Work—work—work—watch and pray" (Message to The Mother Church for 1900 by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 2). From the bottom of my heart I thank God for this healing and for the numerous blessings of which I have been the recipient through Christian Science. I thank the kind friend who sustained me in my first steps. Also I am grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who gave us Christian Science. My heart overflows with gratitude to the practitioner who helped me with so much love and tireless devotion.
