The Joy of Mounting Footsteps

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE opens the door to spiritual understanding, whereby we enter heaven or harmony. Every student of Christian Science has proved that in striving toward the heights of holiness he has experienced much joy and happiness. By listening to the voice of God he finds the path made plain before him.

To the man of God's creating there is no want, unhappiness, bondage, or failure. With joyous gratitude, therefore, we may claim our spiritual birthright of abundance, happiness, freedom, and success. Looking from the standpoint of Love, we may behold a universe of loveliness, harmony, and peace. It is natural for us to walk in God's way and to demonstrate the truths of Christian Science. It is only when we rebel against the truth and allow self-will to govern our thinking that we become confused and the way grows hard and rough. Love helps us as we live it in our lives. Mary Baker Eddy has written (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 119), "Insubordination to the law of Love even in the least, or strict obedience thereto, tests and discriminates between the real and the unreal Scientist."

From the standpoint of spiritual reality, the Christian Scientist sees that mortal mind, with all its claims of hate, is powerless; it can never deprive one of opportunity, activity, or happiness. Students of Christian Science should joyously obey the By-Law given by Mrs. Eddy in the Church Manual (Art. VIII, Sect. 6): "It shall be the duty of every member of this Church to defend himself daily against aggressive mental suggestion, and not be made to forget nor to neglect his duty to God, to his Leader, and to mankind. By his works he shall be judged, — and justified or condemned." The aggressive mental suggestions of the carnal mind can never touch the consciousness which abides on the spiritual heights of purity and Love.
