During a period of twenty-seven years Christian Science...
During a period of twenty-seven years Christian Science has brought untold blessings into my experience, and the constant unfoldment of the glorious truth as revealed through day-by-day study of the Scriptures and the writings of our dear Leader. Mary Baker Eddy, fills me with gratitude and joy.
Once in my early experience in Christian Science I was confronted with a difficult problem which caused me a great deal of mental anguish. Suddenly, one day, this line from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy (p. 567) came to me: "The Gabriel of His presence has no contests." When I looked up the reference, my thought was so illumined, not only by those words, but by those which preceded and followed the statement, that the problem vanished, and I was immediately aware of everpresent harmony. When I spoke of the incident to the Christian Science practitioner who was helping me at the time, her remark was, "Well, that angel thought or light which came to you is what we call in Christian Science 'the coming of the Christ,' and as you progress in your study of Christian Science and become more and more aware of what the coming of the Christ means, this world will appear a better place to you; even the song of the birds will sound sweeter." I was greatly impressed with that remark, and have earnestly striven to discern the full meaning of it, heeding carefully through the years every mention of the Christ at Christian Science lectures, during class instruction, at association meetings, in my preparatory work for the reading of the Bible at our Sunday services in our branch church, and in Sunday school teaching.
As a consequence, many healings have resulted, some instantaneously, when we have most clearly realized the presence of the Christ, Truth. For example, our son was harmoniously born when I realized and voiced the glorious words of the fourth verse of our Leader's poem, entitled "Christ My Refuge" (Poems, p. 12):
