Milngavie and Bearsden Herald
A Christian Science lecture, recently delivered, has called forth some interesting remarks from a writer in your columns. This writer disagress with the lecturer's statement that matter is unreal and untrue, and quotes from the Bible, "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good"— as proof that God created both material and spiritual things.
Christian Science teaches that divine Mind is God, and is not the creator of mortal mind, or the carnal mind, which, Paul says, is "enmity against God." God is the only Mind, the creator of the universe, including man; and according to the Scriptural record in the first chapter of Genesis, man is created in the image and likeness of God.
In another part of the Scriptures we learn that God is Spirit; therefore, man created in God's image and likeness must be spiritual. This entirely coincides with the spiritual record of creation in the first chapter of Genesis. Spirit and matter are opposites, and, since God is Spirit, everything which God created (and He created all that really exists) must be spiritual.
