"The hearing ear"

"Hear me, O God!" how often would I plead;
"Answer my prayer, for urgent is need."

In time, with soaring faith I learned to say,
"I thank Thee Thou hast heard me, and alway.

"Not now that Thou should'st hear me is my care,
But teach Thou me to hear. My need lies there.

"Open my ears to Thy clear Word revealed,
That I may hear, and understand, and so be healed."
