A Christian Science period in the Columbia "Church of the Air"...

A Christian Science period in the Columbia "Church of the Air" series was conducted from Station WEEI, Boston, on Sunday, January 12, 1941, at ten o'clock (Eastern Standard Time), by Mr. John Randall Dunn. This program was presented under the auspices of the Committee on Publication of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, with the approval of The Christian Science Board of Directors. Miss Blanche Haskell, soloist, was assisted by Miss Gertrude R. Litchfield, at the organ.

The program opened with Hymn No. 58 in the Christian Science Hymnal. Mr. Dunn then read selections from the Bible as follows: Proverbs 3:13-18; 14:30; 15:13-17; 16:20-24; 19:23; 21:21, 23; 22:20, 21; 29:18; Psalms 128:1, 2. And from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: 57:18; 246:1-13, 18-31; 584:4; and from the Message to The Mother Church for 1902 by the same author: 17:7, 17-25; 19:17. Then a solo, "Come unto Him" from the "Messiah" by Handel, was sung, after which Mr. Dunn read an address substantially as follows:

Only a few days ago there rang through the Christian world the old, familiar cry, "Happy New Year!" At this disturbed moment in human history, the words take on a deeper significance. They become almost a prayer, rather than a mere wishful greeting. Thoughtful men and women everywhere are hoping and praying that the year of our Lord 1941 may see sanity and brotherly co-operation returning to a war-torn world; they pray for that happiness for humankind which has its roots only in unselfed love and in the challenge to be our brother's keeper; they pray for and wish for themselves and others that boon which transcends all earthly gifts—a peaceful heart, the calmness and true satisfaction that come only to those who are striving for that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus."
