Handling Error Is Praising God

Should a student of Christian Science ever be tempted to believe that he has progressed to the point where he can carry on his work as a follower of Christ Jesus by what he may regard as mentally dwelling in the absolute without specifically dealing with error, he should then pray for humility, and make a thorough study of our textbooks, the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and other writings by Mary Baker Eddy. It is interesting and helpful to note that the tendency to think and talk along this line is sometimes a symptom of egotism, which is ever to be shunned, inasmuch as humility is a first and important step in our study and application of Christian Science.

It was through prayerful study of the words and works of Christ Jesus that Mrs. Eddy first glimpsed the light and logic of scientific Christianity, and thus experienced her own healing. Repeatedly she refers to the Nazarene as our Wayshower, and she urges us to follow her only as she follows Christ. Therefore, we shall do well to study frequently the four Gospels, where the teachings and personal experiences of our Master and Way-shower are simply and succinctly recounted.

It is evident from the Bible that the spiritual premise from which Christ Jesus thought, spoke, and worked was the great truth that God, good, is the only creator or Father of man and of all that is true and eternal. Thus it was that the Master was able to strike the shackles of fear, sin, sickness, and death from the thought of those who were receptive to his message. He saw and stated that evil, sickness and sin included, is not from God, Truth, but from Satan; and he designated Satan as a liar and the father of lies. In other words, Jesus saw and proved that whatever is unlike God, good, is false, lawless, powerless, yes, nonexistent.
