God-given Talents

[Written Especially for Young People]

"EVERY good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." Our Father-Mother God is ever bestowing upon us impartially His divine "talents" of righteousness, including "every good gift." Men and women, if sufficiently alert, are receptive to these precious gifts, welcome them into their thinking, and make practical use of them as opportunities arise.

God-given talents come in the form of good thoughts, which must not be repressed, but outwardly expressed, if there is to be spiritual growth. Let us recall Jesus' parable of the man who distributed the talents among his servants. The lesson is brought out that the talents, to be increased, must be used and not hoarded. But the man who was afraid hid his talent in the earth, and consequently lost all he had.

This story illustrates the importance of sharing our "talents," that they may not be hid in the earth or obscured by any form of worldliness. When one is fully awake to the privilege of receiving these spiritual "talents," which are his in abundance, he will use them fearlessly and without thought of limitation.
