The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Ridgewood, New Jersey (First Church).

Lecturer: Dr. John R. Carr; introduced by William M. Aurelius, who said:—

In I John we read, "Beloved, now are we the sons of God;" and in II Corinthians Paul writes, "Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, begins the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" thus (p. vii): "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." What a bright promise it is to know that right here and now we can successfully work out our human problems! Today, not tomorrow or even next week, is the time to pray humbly, honestly, "Lord, 'open thou mine eyes.'" And when the light of Truth comes to us we are enabled to put off "the old man." As we begin to worship God, the governing Principle of the universe, and to love our neighbor as ourself, our troubles fall away.
