God's Perfection Is Our Protection
To realize life abundant, with health, happiness, freedom, peace, plenty, and protection, and to be unafraid—is not this what millions long for? And proportionably as man's true being is understood, as revealed in Christian Science, it is learned that, even now, we may enjoy our God-given endowment of happiness, freedom, and dominion over evil.
Christ Jesus clearly showed the way to achieve this state of happiness. Urging his followers to "take no thought" for, or to have no anxiety about, what they should eat or drink or how they should be clothed, he said, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." He always held on high the standard of perfection.
Failure to attain the well-being promised by this infallible authority may be traced to the neglect of mankind to follow the Master's doctrine. Often desire to get something for oneself comes before willingness to serve; the things to be added are pursued first, and the search for Truth is postponed or forgotten. There must be primarily the longing to know and to do the will of God and glorify Him. If desire for personal power and prominence knocks at the portal of spiritual thinking, it knocks in vain.
