In an address reported in a recent issue, the Free Church Moderator classifies Christian Science as a modern erroneous belief. I shall be glad if you will allow me to correct this statement.
Christian Scientists accept the Bible as their guide, and the Bible was Mary Baker Eddy's only textbook. Her life-long study of the Scriptures eventually led to her discovery that the carnal mind, or, as she termed it, mortal mind, is responsible for all the ills "that flesh is heir to."
The first two of six religious Tenets of Christian Science, as stated by Mrs. Eddy, are (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 497):
"1. As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life.
"2. We acknowledge and adore one supreme and infinite God. We acknowledge His son, one Christ; the Holy Ghost or divine Comforter; and man in God's image and likeness."
