Spiritual Heritage

Christ Jesus, our Master, said, "Call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven." On page 31 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has written, "Jesus acknowledged no ties of the flesh;" adding: "We have no record of his calling any man by the name of father. He recognized Spirit, God, as the only creator, and therefore as the Father of all."

As one wakens to the knowledge of his relationship to God, his heavenly Father, the false sense of strife, confusion, lack, and physical affliction is overcome. The discords and inharmonies prevalent in families bound and fettered by belief in the reality of matter, are corrected by the truth which makes free. Mortals may believe themselves to be afflicted by disease and undesirable traits of character because some ancestor has been so afflicted. The so-called law of heredity declares this inheritance to be inevitable, and they accept the decree. But the truth is that man is the offspring of God, his heavenly Father; and what the Father has ordained for His child is good now and always.

Christian Science is changing this false expectation for many people the world over. Whereas formerly, a conviction of the validity of heredity was fixed, many now rejoice in freedom from this false law, accepting with gladness the joyful news that, in truth, God's children are "heirs of God, and joint-heris with Christ."
