For the inspiration and protection received through the study of Christian Science during a time of countless difficulties, I should like to express my gratitude to God and to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.

Christian Science came into our home during the World War. I was at the time in great need of healing, both physical and mental. The profound joy and revelation which unfolded to me as I read the chapter on Prayer in the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, have been a source of great peace ever since.

For three years many healings were experienced. Hands which had been crushed in a washing machine were restored to their normal state; and tuberculosis, colds, headaches, ivy poisoning, impetigo, mastoiditis, and many other difficulties were healed. Some of these healings came through my own understanding of Truth, gained from reading our textbook, and others through the aid of a Christian Science practitioner. During this time I felt that I was living on the mountaintop, but the time came when I went down into the valley and had to prove all that I had been learning of Christian Science, for thus do we purify our desires in our journey from sense to Soul.

I shall ever be grateful for the inspiration derived from the study of the textbook and the periodicals. Also I should like to express gratitude for harmonious conditions at childbirth, in contrast to long and trying experiences which I had had before I took up the study of Christian Science.

Some healings stand out clearly as sentinels along the pathway. One was my son's healing of heart trouble, at the time of his birth, when I had been studying Science but a few months. The thoroughness of the work of the practitioner has many times since been very inspiring to me. The doctor, who was in attendance in compliance with state law, remarked to the nurse on leaving that should it be any comfort to the parents she might call him at any time during the night, but that he had little or no hope for the boy. Upon my inquiring what was wrong, I was told, "Oh, nothing we can help." I was disturbed for a little while, but the verse in John, "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me," came to me so clearly that I soon was calm and peaceful, and slept through the night undisturbed. When the doctor called the next day he was much surprised. The healing has been permanent these nineteen years.

At another time, an older son went for a bicycle trip over the week end, and returned on Labor Day to start school the following day. The next morning his face was swollen beyond recognition. Because of the fear which was expressed, and also the many beliefs which were supposed to be connected with the condition, I called a practitioner, and the healing was so quick and complete that the boy entered school the following day.

I could write volumes on the healings in our family of six children. Two boys, born before we began the study of Science, readily accepted it, and entered the Sunday school at the ages of eight and ten years. They attended faithfully, driving a distance of twenty miles each Sunday to do so. The other four also enjoy the Sunday school, and are learning to meet their everyday problems with the truth.

For the protection of the home and the sustaining power of Truth in guarding and guiding us during a time when conditions outside of the home seemed unbearable, I am most grateful. For all the blessings and quick healings I rejoice. Also for the growth in testing times, and for the wonderful truth that is going forth into the world through our periodicals. including The Christian Science Monitor, so wisely provided by our Leader, and for all the activities of The Mother Church, I am deeply grateful.
