Dunkirk Evening Observer

Dunkirk, New York (First Church).—The church edifice of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Dunkirk, was dedicated on Sunday, October 29, 1939, with three services held during the day.

Christian Science Society, Dunkirk, was organized in 1911, and a Sunday school started. The same year the society rented rooms at 212 Central Avenue, where Sunday morning services and Wednesday evening meetings were held, and a Reading Room was opened. The next step was the purchase of a house and lot at 513 Washington Avenue. The society moved into this home in July, 1916.

In May, 1919, the society was incorporated under the religious corporations law of New York State as First Church of christ, Scientist, Dunkirk, New York.
