While we know there are in reality no accidents, no sin,...

While we know there are in reality no accidents, no sin, and no sickness, we are prone, at times, to allow so-called mortal mind to lead us away — at least, temporarily — from right thinking. An instance of this occurred to me while I was on government work in Texas in 1934.

On a Friday morning. when getting out of the bath tub, I slipped and crashed my right side against the tub. The pain was intense, but I remembered Mrs. Eddy's words (Science and Health, p. 130), "Christian Science, properly understood, would disabuse the human mind of material beliefs which war against spiritual facts; and these material beliefs must be denied and cast out to make place for truth." I immediately began to know the truth, and in a very short time was able to get out of the tub and dress, preparatory to going about my daily work.

When I reached the main floor of the hotel and handed my room key to the clerk at the desk, he evidently noticed something out of the ordinary, and asked whether I was ill. I answered that it was nothing serious; I had simply slipped and knocked my side a little, but he immediately suggested that I see the hotel physician, as they were insured against any kind of accident. I assured him that that was not necessary, although I felt reasonably sure that if the doctor examined me, he would diagnose the case as a fractured rib, because in breathing I could feel a sensation of pricking, as though a sharp point were pressing into the flesh. This continued through Friday and Saturday, and even until after I reached church on Sunday morning; but during the service the healing took place, and there has not been any recurrence of the trouble. For this beautiful healing I am deeply grateful.
