"I will lift up mine eyes"

When mortal sense would force its claims,
And doubts and fears arise,
When hope sinks low, and cares oppress,
I will lift up mine eyes!

Lift them to realms of Truth and Life,
Where, in the light of day,
All that seems unlike God, or good,
Formless, shall fade away.

Showing that nought but Love is here,
Changeless, eternal, pure;
Subject to only this one power,
Man dwells content, secure.

Cleaving the clouds and rending tombs,
Clear doth the promise shine:
No good shall ever be withheld,
"All that I have is thine."

Closing all doors to thoughts that vex,
Claiming Mind's watchful care,
Lo! I am in the "secret place,"
Hidden in God through prayer.

Thus glimpsing man's great heritage
Of God-directed ways,
And richness of his Father's gifts,
I shall be filled with praise!
