My mother began the study of Christian Science when...
My mother began the study of Christian Science when I was a small child, so I have had the guidance of this truth all my life, and countless are the blessings it has brought. Because of the influence of Christian Science, our home. in which were nine children, was happy and harmonious. My mother once told me that many times, when she heard what portended to be a quarrel, she would silently realize the presence of Love, and harmony would quickly be restored. As children we were remarkably free from children's diseases, accidents, and so forth. We lived normal, active lives, took part in sports, and attended school regularly, regardless of epidemics or weather.
I have been healed of an attack of throat trouble; also of an undiagnosed disease, which had kept me bedfast and in intense pain for several days. The symptoms disappeared when I finally realized that I was harboring ingratitude. In this instance there was no convalescence, but a complete and instantaneous healing. At one time I had searched for a lost article till all hope of finding it had gone. I sat down to read and compose myself, and the first thing I read was a testimony in a Christian Science Sentinel in which a woman expressed gratitude for the finding of a lost article. I was rebuked; my sense of loss was healed, and in a few moments the article was found.
My young daughter has attended the Christian Science Sunday School for nine years, and has never spent a day in bed. At the time my mother passed on, my sorrow was quickly overcome by the study of Mrs. Eddy's definition of "death," given in Science and Health (p. 584), and since that time a sense of separation has given way to a realization that nothing real can ever be lost. I am very grateful for this particular healing, because I had always before doubted its possibility.
