Having experienced the help and protection of Christian Science...

Having experienced the help and protection of Christian Science since 1924, it is with deep gratitude to God and to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, that I write this testimony.

Before being interested in Christian Science I suffered every winter from very bad chilblains; my hands would become so swollen and painful I could hardly use them. I tried every material remedy which was recommended to me, or which I saw advertised, but all of them proved useless. The first time that the chilblains again appeared, after I started the study of Christian Science, I asked for help from a practitioner, and they quickly disappeared never to return. At the same time a tendency to have severe colds and influenza was quickly overcome.

Late one Saturday night, while I was serving as Reader in a branch church, I strained a muscle at the back of the leg. and the pain was so severe I had great difficulty in getting upstairs. I tried to realize that there is no sensation in matter, and after reading from the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I fell asleep. On waking in the morning I thought I was healed, but on trying to stand found I could not bear to put my foot on the floor. I was very anxious not to be absent from my post, so I telephoned to a practitioner and asked for help. In a very short time I was able to stand without feeling any pain, although I still seemed unable to walk. With some more help and through my own study I was soon able to be at church. On Monday I had much walking to do, but my leg was painful and I was limping badly. The thought came to me, "You say there is no sensation in matter, then why limp?" And that was the end of both pain and limp.
