Sincere gratitude for all that Christian Science has done...
Sincere gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me and mine, and the hope that this may help someone else to overcome fear, prompts me to add my testimony. I shall never cease to be grateful for the first healing in our family, which was responsible for my entrance into the study of Christian Science.
Our first child had passed on at the age of sixteen months with what is known as acidosis. Consequently, when the second boy arrived, both my husband and I were very solicitous about his health, and viewed every indication of sickness with great fear. When the boy was eighteen months old, he contracted intestinal influenza, and in a few days we saw our fears objectified in the form of acidosis. He was rushed to the hospital in a very serious condition, but he improved quickly, and after a week we were able to bring him home, presumably well.
Two months later the child was again taken sick with the same disease. It was then that a loving neighbor told me something about the wonderful truths contained in Christian Science. She explained to me that my own fears were causing my child to be ill; that God had never made sickness of any kind; and that God is Love. She asked me to see him as he really was—God's well and perfect child. A most wonderful sense of peace came over me, and I went into the child's bedroom and literally fell on my knees at his crib. What a change had come over me! My loving neighbor had offered to do some work for the child if I wished it, and I had gladly consented. I know now that she closed the door on all my fears. The child had been in a stupor for several hours, but soon he opened his eyes and asked for a drink. The doctor had cautioned me not to give him any more water than a teaspoonful at a time. But I took my stand and gave the child a glassful of water. He drank it all, with no ill effects, and by evening was up and dressed. The healing was complete. The boy is now fifteen years old and enjoys excellent health.
