Relinquishing the Sense of Matter
Christian Science makes plain that creation is evolved from Spirit, Mind, and not from matter. It also makes clear that the supposition of the existence of matter was the outcome of a false sense, which we are to relinquish for the spiritual sense of creation, as recorded in the first chapter of Genesis.
To false material sense Mrs. Eddy has given the name "mortal mind." This so-called mind, she definitely points out, is not really mind at all, in that it believes, sleeps, and dreams, but does not know or understand. Mind is God, and we can in reality know only that which comes to us from the divine Mind, God.
Mortal mind may believe in evil and matter, but it cannot know them. Not being creations of the divine Mind, matter and evil do not really exist; and it is on the basis of this understanding that the Christian Scientist vanquishes the claims of evil and proves that matter is not real substance.
