Among the Churches

Current Notes

Atlanta Georgian

Atlanta, Georgia (Second Church).—Dedication services of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Atlanta, were held in the morning, afternoon, and evening, in the church edifice, at Fourth and Juniper Streets, on Sunday, January 29, 1939. A brief history of the church was read at each service.

Second Church of Christ, Scientist, was organized on September 30, 1920. In 1923, a charter was received from the state of Georgia. The first public service was held in Edison Hall, Peachtree and Ellis Streets. The same day a Sunday school was formed.

In 1924 it was necessary to find larger quarters, which were rented in a hall on Forsyth Street, on the site of the new post office. From this time the growth of the church was steady, and many progressive steps were taken. The church prospered financially, and the collections were more than enough to take care of the current expenses.
