Over thirty-five years ago Christian Science was presented to me by my teacher of vocal music. At that time I was suffering from bronchitis in a severe form, and was very miserable girl, almost without hope of ever being well, and about ready to give up the fight. In a few months this friend moved to a distant city, and I was left alone, remembering only snatches of her words of encouragement, but the seed had been sown; I had a ray of hope, and felt that some day I might get well.

About a year later it was my privilege to spend a week in my friend's home, where I heard the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly read each day, and attended a Sunday service and a Wednesday evening meeting, which were held in a small room. My idea of church was a spacious auditorium, lofty ceiling, organ music, well-trained choir, and a large congregation, but I enjoyed this Christian Science service as I had never enjoyed a church service before, and the following Sunday found me at the small hall where Christian Science services were held in our city. Thus I left relatives and friends, and my former church home, and started out alone with the Bible and Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy to guide me to a better understanding of God as "a very present help."

In a few months I gained in weight and strength, the hacking cough ceased, and I was on my way towards health and happiness. Then I neglected my study and had a relapse. This time I called on a loving Christian Science practitioner for help, and the battle was fought and won.
