Why Disarm?

No one can deny that human thought is going through a tremendous fermentation. In this fermentation material values are being shown to be worthless, and spiritual values are being understood as alone worthy and lasting.

Christian Science offers a means for the correction of the so-called evil forces in the world, which seek to prevent the appearing of true peace among the nations. It shows that all such questions are to be solved through an understanding of God—universal, divine Principle. Disarmament must first take place in individual consciousness. Here the kingdom of God must be established; here the peace of the nations must be firmly anchored. As this is done, belief in evil will disappear from human consciousness. Through the spiritual enlightenment which Christian Science offers, all will be able to say with our Lord and Master, "The prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me."

When each individual daily cleanses his consciousness of evil—of hatred, envy, revenge, anger, contention, discord, dishonesty, fear, and so forth—and cherishes only good and pure thoughts—divine thoughts—such as love, joy, peace, patience, friendliness, kindness, faith, gentleness, humility, mercy, and brotherly love; and as each one sees a brother in his neighbor and willingly and lovingly aids him, true disarmament will no longer be a question of the future, for it will then be recognized that "now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation."
