An article which appeared in the Telegraph recently, contained the following statement: "Christian Scientists also have their Bible, the works of Mary Baker Eddy." From this statement it would seem as if the author of the article considers that to Christian Scientists the writings of Mrs. Eddy replace the Bible; and as such a view is erroneous, I shall be grateful if you will allow me to make the position clear to your readers.
The first tenet of Christian Science is, "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 497). The English Bible used in Christian Science church services is the well-known and well-loved King James Version. The faithful followers of this religion study the Bible constantly, as well as Mrs. Eddy's writings.
Christian Science is turning mankind to the Bible and teaching them to love it more, because, through the light which Mrs. Eddy's writings throw upon the Scriptures, men and women are enabled better to understand their spiritual meaning and avail themselves of their spiritual power.
