I have received many blessings from the study of Christian Science
I have received many blessings from the study of Christian Science. My first acquaintance with it was in 1925, when my mother was healed in three days, through the work of a Christian Science practitioner, of a serious illness which had kept her an invalid for many years, and for which the services of the most eminent physicians in the United States had been secured. A great change took place in our household. My mother became joyous and peaceful, and our home affairs were more successful and harmonious. At that time, however, I thought I was utterly weary of living. I had found that worldly things failed to satisfy. I knew nothing of God, although in my despondency I prayed many times for light. "Man's extremity is God's opportunity," and my prayers were answered.
One day, five years after my mother's healing, I became very ill. My mother, for the first time, asked me if I should like to try Christian Science. I accepted, called a practitioner, and was instantaneously healed. Then a glorious light, such as I had never known, came into my consciousness, and I was filled with joy, peace, love for others, and a new desire to serve them. It seemed as if I had awakened from a dream. The religious articles in The Christian Science Monitor brought me daily inspiration, as they continue to do. For this my gratitude is immeasurable.
I had studied art for many years. Immediately after my healing an opportunity to use this training came, and I found that my life had become purposeful and useful. I joined the Christian Science Society in our town, and the joy and inspiration of serving on one of the literature committees was granted me. I shall never be fully able to express my gratitude for this blessing.
