The Grandeur of Humility

Humility is defined in Webster's dictionary as "freedom from pride and arrogance; lowliness, meekness." When the true meaning of humility has been gained, the next step is to practice it. This demand has seemed for many a difficult accomplishment.

The more fully one can express the quality of humility in his daily living, the more fully he can demonstrate what Mary Baker Eddy terms the "Life which is Truth and the Truth which is Life" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 35). Proportionately as he is able to do this, will he progress.

In order to attain humility, one must strive for it; just as one would for anything else that is greatly desired. In "Miscellaneous Writings" Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 341), "Seeking is not sufficient whereby to arrive at the results of Science: you must strive; and the glory of the strife comes of honesty and humility." Christian Scientists all over the world are learning the truth of these beautiful words of our Leader.
