Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science,...
Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, tells us in Science and Health (p. 255), "Love is the liberator," and St. Paul has said, "Love is the fulfilling of the law." While I was going through a difficult experience, many seemingly untoward conditions presented themselves to me, particularly one which was most trying. I tried very hard to know the truth about this condition, but criticism entered my consciousness until, finally, it was not merely criticism, but resentment. I spoke of this to my mother, who has been a Christian Scientist for many years, and she said, "You know that when you love enough there will not be anything to meet, for resentment cannot stay in a consciousness enlightened by Truth and Love."
At the time, to love this person seemed a large demand. I tried, however, to see only the perfect child of God, and to know that there is no carnal or mortal mind to express or accept as real the qualities which I seemed to see manifested. During this time we had, in the Christian Science Quarterly, the Lesson-Sermon "Man," and one of the references from Science and Health (p. 475) stated that man "has not a single quality underived from Deity." Christian Science also tells us that, in our true selfhood, we coexist with and reflect divine Principle, and I knew that if this applied to one, it applied to all. After I had pondered this lesson for a while the mist cleared, and I was able to see my fellow man as I would have him see me. A complete healing resulted for all concerned. I am grateful for the unfoldment that came to me during the experience, and to know that man never changes. The only thing that changes, or can ever change, is our concept of man.
Many other erroneous conditions have been overcome since I took up the study of Christian Science, among them restlessness, the thought of limitation, and infection, which yielded quickly when the truth was applied. Also I experienced protection during an automobile trip. While the car was going down a steep incline, the steering wheel broke, but no one was injured.
