At intervals during my school days, and up to the time...
At intervals during my school days, and up to the time of my marriage, Christian Science had been favorably brought to my notice. I did not think seriously of it, however, until I had reached a point in my life when it seemed as if I had nowhere to turn for a solution to my problems.
At this time I was visiting in my brother's home. His wife has received a wonderful healing through Christian Science and was studying it. Through curiosity I found myself reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and the various pieces of literature which were at hand in the home. My sister-in-law knew I was reaching out for something beyond myself, and that my need was great, so one day she told me that she knew there was help for me in Christian Science if I felt that I could turn to it wholeheartedly. She spoke with such conviction that I began to read more diligently and from an unprejudiced standpoint. Almost at once I began to experience a sense of peace I had never known before, for I had found a logical religion.
I was absorbed for a time in this study. Then one day my thought returned to the physical difficulty which had assumed such large proportions, and I was led to go and talk to a practitioner. I shall never forget the change that took place in my consciousness that day. As I walked from the practitioner's office I felt as though I was entering upon a new existence, as indeed I was. My desire was to begin at once a systematic study of that which held out such hope. The practitioner had told me that the best way to learn more of Christian Science was to begin the daily study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. I have always been grateful for having had the importance and value of the Lesson pointed out to me when I first began to study Science. The ills which had seemed so distressing faded from my experience, and I was hardly conscious of their departure.
