Desires Fulfilled

"Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds." So writes Mary Baker Eddy on page 1 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." How comforting and reassuring are her words to those who feel that they have not accomplished their desire, have not carried to completion plans made in their youth, and have given up to the verdict of mortal mind, "Too late now!"

Should one experience regret and disappointment over an unfulfilled desire, let him ask himself first of all if the desire was an unselfish one, if it was one to give and not to get, if it was one that would bless and benefit mankind. If he can answer, "Yes," to these questions, then no argument of limited education, unfavorable environment, lack of health or time, or belief of age, can interfere with the fulfillment of his righteous desire, for there is no stagnation under God's law, and no mesmerism to confuse or disturb and blind him to the opportunities at hand.

Dreaming away the hours or idly waiting for one's prayer to be fulfilled, however, will never accomplish anything. But waiting on God, seeking His guidance, listening for His voice, and obediently following the divine direction will accomplish that which is rightly desired.
