Dominion,

In an interesting article in a recent issue of Dominion a professor uses as an illustration of his theme an "almost incredible story" told to him by a correspondent. This story is to the effect that an exponent of Christian Science, an American lady, in the course of a lecture gave a graphic description of the origin of the word "God" which for puerility is indeed hard to beat.

That the professor's correspondent refused to accept the explanation is quite natural, but that he accepted the lecture as representing the teachings of Christian Science is lamentable. That the lecturer was not a Christian Scientist is clearly evident from the few sentences the professor quotes. No authorized Christian Science lecturer uses a blackboard, and certainly never enunciates such unscientific nonsense as that "man has a spiritual eye—the pineal gland." How could a purely material object such as a gland be at the same time spiritual? A dictionary tells us that "spiritual" is "of Spirit as opposed to matter."

Christian Science teaches that God is infinite, incorporeal Spirit, or Mind, and from this definition there can be no deviation.
