The universality of the vision of our beloved Leader,...

The universality of the vision of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, is a source of gratitude to me. She saw that by means of the Christian Science publications and the Board of Lectureship all the world might receive the message of Truth.

The church which I had attended since childhood had not satisfied my need, although I am grateful for its wholesome environment and Bible teaching. Christian Science came to me through the influence of loved friends. For many years I read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy without understanding it. I also read some of the literature, which I would occasionally pick up.

I did not read to gain healing, but only to find out what this Science taught. However, many ailments dropped away, among them chronic constipation, almost continuous headache, tonsillitis, from which I suffered for a week twice yearly, and I was also freed from stiffness in the joints. I recovered from a nervous breakdown by filling my thought continuously with the truths contained in the twenty-third and ninety-first Psalms; thus suggestions opposed to God, good, were crowded out, and the consciousness of health was mine. This was not quickly accomplished. Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health, p. 261), "Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts."
