"Up into a mountain"

It is recorded of Jesus that sometimes he went up into a mountain to pray, to be alone with God, to commune with Him, in order to rise higher in the consciousness of good.

On one occasion, according to Matthew, Jesus "came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there." In the next verse we find that "great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, ... and he healed them." Going up a mountain is usually strenuous exercise for the healthy and strong, but what an effort it must have been to those lame, blind, and maimed! What courage, humility, and righteous desire they must have had!

Do we approach the Christ, Truth, with qualities such as these? Do we make earnest effort to gain our own healings? Do we honestly do all we can ourselves, or do we expect the Christian Science practitioner to do all for us? How much of honest effort have we made? Let us search our thoughts. There may be sometimes more we can do. How about love? Can we find more opportunity to express greater love? How about gratitude? Just how much of sincere gratitude are we expressing? Then humility and courage, as well as greater consecration to the study of our textbooks, the Bible and our Leader's writings! All of these will make our journey up the mountain of spiritual thinking easier and happier.
