Many years ago I became interested in Christian Science, while I was still attending an evangelical church, and one day I had my first opportunity to prove the healing power of Science.

I was ill, and a member of my family insisted that a doctor be called. The doctor pronounced the condition a poisoned sore throat. I had not eaten anything for several days because I was unable to swallow. The doctor then said that if there was no change the following day a hypodermic would have to be administered. However, when he had gone, I asked if I might ask a Christian Science practitioner to come to the home, and the request was granted.

When the practitioner came and told me of the wonderful truths contained in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I gradually removed all the wrappings which had been placed around my neck. As she was leaving she asked me to read the following verse from Isaiah: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." I studied this verse and that very evening I got up, dressed, and ate my first meal.
