It is with deep and sincere gratitude that I thank God...
It is with deep and sincere gratitude that I thank God for the revelation of Christian Science. This truth was presented to me by a relative when I was eighteen years of age. One morning, because of a stomach-ache, I hesitated about attending school, and was told that I did not have to suffer from anything except wrongdoing, that I could eat anything, and would not have to take medicine. I dressed, went to school, and forgot about the stomach disturbance.
I began to study the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. For about two months I understood little of what I read. At that time I was attending regularly the Sunday school of a church which maintained a Boy Scout troop, a gymnasium, and a swimming pool. My Sunday school teacher was an instructor in these activities, and I took an active part in them. During one of the Sunday school sessions, the teacher said that if we were not satisfied with the religion in which our parents believed, we might be interested in other religions; and he named Christian Science as an example, saying that it was very practical and was helping many people who studied it. I was very much pleased to know that my teacher liked this religion and decided to go to the Christian Science Sunday School.
My first Sunday there was a new experience. I liked it very much, and decided to give up the swimming pool and my former activities in order to study Christian Science faithfully. I was helped greatly by my new teacher and was soon led to visit a practitioner. It was then that the light of Truth began to dawn in my consciousness. My physical and mental condition was far from being harmonious, but through the practitioner's help I was enabled to unwind some of the snarls that had bound me. A stomach disorder, which had kept me in bed for many days, was healed. I was gradually led to find better employment, was healed of smoking, and learned to exchange unlovely traits of character for higher ideals. A great sense of fear was replaced with confidence, and my life gradually became happier.
