The "Christlike touch"
When nearing the close of his earthly ministry, and on the eve of his crucifixion, Christ Jesus comforted and strengthened his disciples with the words, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you." Today Christian Science is bringing peace, comfort, and strength to a world torn with strife, fear, and confusion, and Christian Scientists have the sacred privilege of being comforters with "Christlike touch" (see Retrospection and Introspection, p. 95), strengthening and uplifting their sick, discouraged, and sin-burdened brothers.
The Master had been doubted, ridiculed, and persecuted, and was soon to be crucified, yet he was at peace and could assure others of the continued presence of the Christ, even though he personally would not be with them. Mary Baker Eddy expressed the same spiritual tranquillity, a quietness and confidence which was felt by all who knew her. Her book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," is imparting healing and comfort to unnumbered sufferers, uplifting the thought of the entire world with its messages of love and peace.
May we never forget that the healing power of the Master and the peace he imparted, the spiritual tranquillity and compassionate love of our Leader, were won through cross-bearing, self-surrender, and a deep desire to do God's will! It was the Master's own lifting up which enabled him to lift up his fellow men. Not only those who sought him, but the entire world, felt this spiritual influence. It was the attraction of spiritual love which brought Mary Magdalene to him for healing and self-surrender to Christ. It was his spiritual purity which cleansed the woman who approached him in the throng to touch the hem of his robe. The Master was so conscious of his unity with God that he was always manifesting the presence of the healing and saving Christ.
