Earth's Greatest Miracles

"There are no greater miracles known to earth than perfection and an unbroken friendship."—Retrospection and Introspection by Mary Baker Eddy, page 80.

Earth's greatest miracles are two:
Perfection, and a friendship true.

Perfection is "Thy kingdom come"—
When Spirit speaks and sense is dumb.
It is the atmosphere of Love
Beneath us, round about, above.
It speaks not through a formal creed,
But shines through every loving deed.
'Tis present now for us to see
Through the clear glass of purity.

The second miracle on earth,
Unbroken friendship, owes its birth
To the establishment of sure
Foundations for affections pure.
No jealousy, no human care,
But love for God alone, is there.
For only love of goodness can
Assure unchanging love for man.

These are earth's miracles, these two:
Perfection, and a friendship true.
