It is with sincere gratitude that I bear witness to the healing efficacy of Christian Science. From childhood I had been reared in an orthodox church, and from early boyhood I had been prejudiced against what I thought the teachings of Christian Science to be. In later years I was willing to concede that this Science might help some whose ailments appeared to be of a mental nature, such as nervousness, worry, and weariness; but I had no faith that Christian Science could heal any functional disorders. In the years to come. however, I was to prove in my own experience that Christian Science does heal disease, and that all disease is mental.

About ten years ago I had a very severe attack of arthritis, which doctors claimed was caused by kidney and prostate gland trouble, from which I had been a suffere for some time. I was severely crippled, the joints of my hands, knees, and feet being swollen and very lame. I was under the care of doctors, one a specialist who was considered the best in the city. I tried innumerable types of medicine, took baths at the hot springs, dieted, and spent some time on the desert, thinking the dry air would help me. But all of this was of no avail, and I seemed to get worse instead of better. In my extremity some friends, who were students of Christian Science, asked me to try this Science. I did; not with any optimistic feeling that it would help me, but, as I then thought, from a sense of courtesy to them.

I procured a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy from a Christian Science Reading Room and read it through. I seemed to derive no benefit from reading the book and put it aside; but a "still small voice" told me to read it again. As I proceeded to do this, I obtained a more intelligent sense of the book and became more interested. I called upon a Christian Science practitioner for help, and although my healing was slow, it was finally received.
