Christian Science came into my life years ago,...
Christian Science came into my life years ago, at a time when my attendance at an orthodox church had grown desultory, for the reason that this church had failed to bring me the peace and assurance which I sorely needed.
At the time I was subjected to a lawsuit involving a substantial sum of money, through no fault of mine that I could see. When I was informed that the law favored the other side of the case, I still could see nothing but equity on my side. I began to grope for some assurance that justice would prevail. This honest seeking was rewarded when the thought came, Why not try Christian Science? I responded, secured a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and began reading at the Preface. When I reached the chapter on Prayer, I saw that my desire for assurance of God's justice was prayer, as known in Christian Science. It was truly a joy to recognize that God had also answered this prayer by furnishing the needed assurance. It became apparent that God is all good and all-powerful. I held fast to this new view of God; and so strong was the power of Truth that in the course of the trial the judge early detected the falsity of the opposing testimony, and directed a verdict in our favor.
To me this was conclusive proof of the presence, power, and availability of God, and I resolved to learn more of this demonstrable religion. In proportion to the progress made in this direction, peace and happiness took their rightful places in my consciousness, and greater opportunities for serving unfolded. Unwholesome traits of character began to disappear, including the desire for tobacco and social drinking.
