When Christian Science was first presented to me I knew intuitively that it was the long-sought truth, yet I would not accept it. I studied psychology, philosophy, medical theories, and comparative religions, in an effort to refute Christian Science. I deleted all the passages in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy which I found particularly objectionable to my way of thinking, and twice that textbook so angered me that I burned it.

By changing my attitude to one of childlike receptivity and daily studying the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, I was healed of the cigarette habit, social drinking, uncontrollable temper, romantic lying, catarrh, periodic bilious attacks with violent headaches, constipation, the need of wearing glasses, rheumatism, and severe tropical fever; and with the aid of two practitioners, I was also healed of appendicitis. All of these healings took place about four years ago, except the last three, which occurred about two years ago.

Christian Science has brought to the surface hidden talents, so that now I enjoy writing poetry and painting salable pictures, instead of merely longing to express myself. For all these healings and gifts, and especially for the joy Christian Science has brought into my life, I am humbly grateful to God; to Christ Jesus and all his followers; to Mrs. Eddy; and to all those who are consecrating their lives to Christian Science; and also for membership in The Mother Church.
