I should like to express my gratitude to God and to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for the healing and saving power of the Christ, Truth, as revealed in Christian Science; and for the wonderful, unselfish ministrations of the Christian Science practitioners. I am grateful to God for bringing me an understanding of my real selfhood as His perfect child.
Two and a half years ago I went through what looked like a bad mental, or nervous, breakdown. The doctors who attended me could not seem to suggest anything to help me, but one kindly man urged those caring for me to get me away as quickly as possible. A relation made this possible, and I went to a convalescent home to recuperate. But I did not find there the love I needed. My mother was traveling and out of reach of direct communication, so that I felt completely deserted. Then, in the darkest hour, a Christian Scientist, a very old friend of my mother's, came to see me. She talked with me for a little while, and then invited me to her home. I very thankfully accepted; and all through the weeks and months that followed she lovingly cared for me and worked for me in Christian Science. Eventually she gave me her copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, to study. I spent hours trying to understand the words that were written there. When I think what this experience and my changed attitude have done for me, I am increasingly grateful and more amazed each day. I actually was "born again." I also am very grateful and thankful for my release from the dream of the senses in many other ways through the realization of the fact that "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness" (Science and Health, p. 468).—(Miss) Vera Eileen Cranny, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
