The writer of the article "Mind Over Matter," published in the January number of the Chiropractic Journal, spoke most kindly of Christian Science as having "restored to health many thousands of sufferers," and said that it is still doing this. I am deeply appreciative of the very evident sincerity of your contributor's acknowledgment of Christian Science as an effective healing system and am glad to express this through the columns of your publication.

At the same time I should like also to point out to your readers that when the writer of the article, herein reviewed, further stated that along with Christian Science he would "include suggestive therapeutics, mental healing, Unity, and all the various philosophies which deal with the mind exclusively," he revealed a decided misunderstanding of Christian Science, because, unlike the several systems he enumerated, Christian Science practice does not in any way employ the so-called mortal mind. On the contrary, it repudiates it as a spiritual factor in Christian Science healing.

A definite statement as to how healing is actually accomplished through Christian Science is found on page xi of the Preface to the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," where Mrs. Eddy writes, "The physical healing of Christian Science results now, as in Jesus' time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and disease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation." Principle is one of several synonyms Mrs. Eddy uses throughout her writings for God. Deity alone is the source of healing power in Christian Science, even as in the healing ministry of the Master, who derived all his power from God.
