In the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. VIII, Sect. 24)...

In the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. VIII, Sect. 24) our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has stated: "Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessings, it scales the pinnacle of praise and illustrates the demonstration of Christ, 'who healeth all thy diseases' (Psalm 103:3)." Increasing realization of the great importance of testimonies of healing impels me to send my offering of praise for what Christian Science has done for me.

Twenty-five years ago Christian Science found me ill and in despair, after several years of suffering. I had undergone three operations, first for appendicitis, then for peritonitis with complications, and lastly for adhesions. After the last operation permanent recovery and good health seemed as remote as ever. The prospect of years of semi-invalidism caused me to plan to take my own life. I refrained from doing so only because I knew it would bring grief and shame to my family.

From early girlhood I had been confused and disturbed about religious questions, and never felt satisfied with the teachings of any of the Sunday schools and churches that I attended, and as I grew older and illness came upon me, I became embittered, believing that God was responsible in some way for my plight. I longed to be and to do good, but could not find the way.
