Christian Science found me in the darkest hour of my life....
Christian Science found me in the darkest hour of my life. At that time I was suffering from many physical ailments, besides worry, fear, and doubt, and my health was fast declining. But health was secondary to me. My greater desire was to know more about God, or Soul, or Life. Then I earnestly prayed for enlightenment, but there seemed to be no answer to my prayers, and I was quite discouraged and despairing. In short, it was very dark to me; but God did not leave me there, for just at this point Christian Science came and brought this passage of Scripture: "The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined." This has been true in my life.
I am one who goes to sea, and my ship was in New York, where some Christian Science literature was distributed on board by some loving hand. Up to that time this truth was unknown to me; but the inspiration that I receive, and the peace of mind I attain, through reading these periodicals has encouraged me to continue to seek more about Christian Science.
At the end of that voyage I returned to South Shields, and not knowing that there was a Christian Science church here, I went to Newcastle. There a lady directed me to a Christian Science Reading Room, where I purchased a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. The librarian then introduced me to a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, and from that time my feet were planted on firmer ground. I am sure that Christian Science is the truth that makes one free, for I have had many demonstrations which have proved without any doubt that this Science can solve any problem when one begins to understand it.
