"The grand necessity of existence"
Mary Baker Eddy
, the prophet of our day, has written in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 560), "The great miracle, to human sense, is divine Love, and the grand necessity of existence is to gain the true idea of what constitutes the kingdom of heaven in man." This same textbook, when read and studied in conjunction with the Holy Bible, teaches us how to gain this true idea and establish within ourselves the kingdom of heaven.
It is a fine and wholesome sign that many today are increasingly seeking to discover "what constitutes the kingdom of heaven in man." They want to know what they can do to develop in their consciousness a harmonious state of thinking that will not only bring blessings to themselves, but will also benefit the rest of the world. This search for harmony is bound to become, as time goes on, an all-absorbing activity of the human race, because harmony is a "necessity of existence."
Those unacquainted with the Science of being are asking, in their search for harmony, What do we need that we may find peace? Do we need better social conditions, better educational systems, better governments, better armaments? Christian Science answers these questions by pointing to the spiritual reality and saying, to all seekers for Truth, "The grand necessity of existence is to gain the true idea of what constitutes the kingdom of heaven in man." When we learn the meaning and nature of the harmonious conditions dwelling intact within the real man, then we shall help to solve the problems of society, governments, and powers, until finally discord and dismay shall be forever banished.
